New Steering Committee Members
The Health Law Section Steering Committee welcomes three new members.

Lauren S. Jones is an attorney-advisor with the D.C. Department of Health Care Finance. She advises the agency on a wide array of health care law concerns, including the governance and structure of health information exchanges, regulation of managed care plans, administration of the Medicaid State plan, and provider payment suspensions. Her prior experiences includes serving as amicus curiae counsel in an action concerning the elimination of N.J. Family Care benefits for legal immigrants in New Jersey and managing health promotion grant programs in North Carolina. She also has served on the D.C. Bar Health Law Section New Practitioners Committee since 2014. Lauren is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Seton Hall University School of Law, and is certified in Core Public Health Concepts by the Gillings School of Global Public Health, UNC-Chapel Hill.

Jason Reddish is a health law attorney practicing with Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, PC. Jason primarily represents safety net providers and pharmacies on issues related to the federal 340B drug discount program. Before focusing on 340B matters, Jason represented drug manufacturers in product liability, off-label marketing, and drug pricing litigation, and long-term acute care hospitals in regulatory matters. He is a 2005 graduate of Tulane Law School, and a 2001 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he majored in physiology and neurobiology. Jason is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, American Society for Pharmacy Law, Maryland State Bar Association, and District of Columbia Bar Association.

Paul Westfall is a senior counsel in the Advice Branch of the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services. His work includes providing advice and ensuring legal sufficiency on OIG reports and responses to Congressional requests on a variety of matters including Medicaid eligibility and reimbursement, implementation of payment and delivery system reform, and OIG authorities and jurisdiction. He is a member of the D.C. Bar Health Law Section New Practitioners Committee and a Vice Chair of the American Health Lawyers Association Health Care Reform Educational Task Force. Paul is a graduate of the University of Iowa and Seattle University School of Law.

Upcoming Programs in 2017
Please keep an eye out for details on upcoming Health Law Section programs. Programs being planned will address the following topics: drug pricing, the Medicare Quality Payment Program, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and opioid abuse.

Join the Health Law Section's Programs & Education Committee
The Health Law Section's Programs & Education Committee invites you to join in planning programs for the Health Law Section. You will have the opportunity to dive into aspects of health law and to connect with experienced practitioners, with the goal of planning dynamic programs for you and your colleagues.The Program & Education Committee has monthly conference calls (generally on the third Wednesday of the month from 12:00 –12:30 p.m.) to plan and coordinate programs.

Financial Report
The D.C. Bar's report to the Health Law Section Steering Committee for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2016 paints a picture of solid financial health. The Health Law Section began the fiscal year with $32,379 in assets and ended the fiscal year with $38,036 in assets. In fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, the section generated $1,960 in program revenue and expended $914 in programming. The Health Law Section donated $500 each to the D.C. Bar Bono Program and the Youth Law Fair, totaling $1,000 in charitable giving.

The D.C. Bar's most recent financial report offers a snapshot of the Health Law Section's recent financial activities. The Statement of Activities report spanning the period of July 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016 shows that the section generated $35 in program
revenue (admissions and registrations) and expended $160 in other expenses (food & beverage). If you have any questions about the section's finances, please contact Health Law Section Financial Officer Lauren Jones.
