The D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) offers free educational presentations to various legal employers and firms, voluntary bar associations, judicial organizations, law schools and agencies in our area. The goal of these programs is to raise awareness of LAP services and the impact that substance use and mental health disorders have on the legal profession. The information provided in these presentations can help lower stigma and increase the likelihood that an individual will seek help. Providing legal professionals with well-being guidance and information may help prevent disciplinary problems, protect clients, support family members and professional associates, and strengthen the legal profession.

Please contact us to inquire about scheduling a presentation for your organization.

Programs can be standardized or specially designed for your group. Some programs may qualify for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. The sessions typically focus on topics such as:

  • Mindfulness-based stress management
  • Balancing work and life
  • Compassion fatigue
  • Mental health wellness
  • Substance use education.

For more information, please call the LAP at 202-347-3131 or email us at [email protected].

In addition to management consultations, the D.C. Bar LAP sponsors a Law Firm Wellness Consortium (LFWC). The LFWC members meet once per quarter to learn about the latest in well-being topics and discuss best practices related to enhancing well-being in law firms. The LFWC, which is free to join, has more than 60 members from about 30 firms in D.C. and is growing. If you are interested in joining the LFWC, please contact us to learn more.
